ENERGY STAR® Ratings & Performance Criteria

Door Glass & Enclosed Blinds

Make Your Home More Energy Efficient

A green home doesn't have to compromise beauty or natural light. Western Reflections door glass can be used in exterior doors to meet NAHB National Green Building Standard specifications, and increase the energy efficiency of your home. Western Reflections is an ENERGY STAR® stakeholder

When installed in the proper door, select Western Reflections doorglass products meet regional ENERGY STAR® thermal performance standards as defined by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Find out more about energy efficiency specifications in your area. Local and state codes are developed using ENERGY STAR® guidelines but may be more or less stringent.

Energy Efficiency Properties of Door Glass

Thermal performance of door glass is measured by two properties: resistance to heat flow and resistance to sunlight warmth.

  • Heat flow is expressed by the U-factor value; less heat flow yields a lower U-factor value.
  • Resistance to sunlight warmth is measured by the Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC); less sunlight warmth through the window yields a lower SHGC.

Western Reflections Doorglass Ratings

Energy efficiency ratings for Western Reflections doorglass products vary by door construction, size of doorglass, and the materials of the doorglass assembly.

The ratings of participating entry door manufacturers can be found in the Thermal Performance Database. Contact Western Reflections for more information about which entry door and doorglass combinations meet ENERGY STAR® requirements.

U.S. ENERGY STAR® Criteria for Doors (Effective January 1, 2015)

The U.S. standards include criteria for air leakage. Swinging doors cannot exceed 0.5 cfm/ft2.
