Performance / CodesMissile Impact StandardsHurricane Impact Doorglass meets missile impact standards to provide protection from wind-borne debris in HVWZ (High Velocity Wind Zone) areas where wind speeds can exceed 120 mph. The missile impact test fires an 8-foot long 2x4 at 50 feet per second at designated spots on the doorglass and door slab. The entire unit must then remain intact through 9000 pressure cycles and also pass water infiltration, structural loading, forced entry resistance, and air infiltration tests. Western Reflections Hurricane Impact Doorglass is tested and certified in a range of entrance systems for specific areas. For more information, click on the jurisdiction of interest below. Florida Florida
The Florida building code has wind zone specific performance requirements. Doorglass installations in the wind-borne debris region must meet the missile impact standard or be shuttered. Approved Systems Approved impact entrance systems can be found on the Florida state building code website, and are also listed below. Hurricane Impact Doorglass also has a Miami-Dade County Notice of Acceptance NOA#03-0428.02 (exp. 7/28/10) that allows it to be substituted in any glazed door or sidelight with an approved missile impact NOA. Both NOAs must be provided to the inspector. Hurricane Impact Doorglass can be used to replace shuttered sidelights that are part of an opaque door impact NOA. It cannot be used with an opaque door impact NOA to create a glazed door. For a copy of the NOA click on the link below or go to www.buildingcodeonline.com
