Tax Incentives To Reduce The Cost
Of Home Improvements in 2009 and 2010 |

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 extended many consumer tax incentives for energy efficient improvements made to the taxpayer’s principal residence from January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2010. A one-time tax credit for purchasing doors that meet the criteria of U-Factor of less than or equal to .30 and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient of less than or equal to .30 are available.
Exterior doors can earn a tax credit of 30% of the cost, up to $1500, for existing homes. Western Reflections’ doorglass is a key part of the door system that allows you to meet the criteria to qualify for the 30% tax credit.
$1500 is the maximum total credit that can be claimed for all products placed in service in 2009 and 2010 for most home improvements. For purposes of taking the credit, homeowners must have a Manufacturer’s Certification Statement from the door system manufacturer (click here to see an example from the door manufacturer). A Manufacturer’s Certification is a signed statement from the manufacturer certifying that the product or component qualifies for the tax credit.
IRS Form 5695, “Residential Energy Credits,” must be filed to claim the credit. Taxpayers must keep a copy of the statement for their records, but do not have to submit a copy with their tax return.
